Current Meetings
The Herb Society meets on a monthly basis.
Currently, our meetings are held on the second
Friday of the month at 6 p.m (please check the
Calendar for exceptions). During the winter, our
meetings are held at members' homes or at
Saltsburg's Borough Building, located at 320
Point Street.
Mission Statement: The purpose of
the Herb Society of Historic Saltsburg, founded in
1993 by Jeane Emge, is to plant and maintain an
herb garden within the Historic Saltsburg district
and to teach, to learn, and to share a love of
herbs.
A Little About What We Do
Since its humble beginnings in 1993, the Herb Society has grown to maintain
several gardens around Saltsburg, dedicated to preserving and promoting
gardening in general and the perpetuation of herb lore and use in particular. If
you are interested in learning more about herbs, flowers, perennials, and
annuals, please contact us at HerbSocietyInfo@yahoo.com.

Upcoming Event,
February 10
The Herb Society of Historic
Saltsburg was able to meet
on Friday, January 20,
instead of the originally
scheduled January 13
meeting; the previous
meeting was canceled due
to poor weather. Nearly all
current members were able
to attend, despite snow and
freezing rain predictions for
later that evening. Plans
were made for the
remaining meetings and
events for 2012, including
an event open to the public
on February 10, 6 p.m., at
Saltsburg’s Borough
Building. Local apiarist (that
means beekeeper to us
common folk) Jerry Repasky
of Apollo will give a
presentation on
beekeeping, honey, and
colony collapse disorder.
Jerry will have some bottles
of his own honey for sale.
Weather permitting, the
owners of Honey House
Apothecary of Ebensburg
may also attend with their
beeswax-infused products.
Please check for meeting
updates and additional
details as they become
available.
For the March 9 meeting,
long-time Herb Society
member Carla Eichmann will
present a program on caring
for garden roses; the rose is
the 2012 Herb of the Year,
as established by the
International Herb
Association (http://iherb.
org/hoy.htm). The 2012
Perennial Plant of the Year
is Brunnera “Jack Frost” as
established by the Perennial
Plant Association; more info

Days, June 1, 2, and 3, 2012.
